The Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) recently announced the launch of its environmental DNA (eDNA) Service Platform, a research service that processes and analyzes eDNA samples from scientists, conservationists, companies, and policymakers. With eDNA transforming how the research community studies and manages ecosystems, GMGI will leverage its experienced genomic research staff to deliver robust, efficient, and scientifically rigorous solutions for collecting, processing, analyzing, and applying eDNA data.
This is an example of the evolving nature of the ocean and port economy. Critical to protecting our oceans is understanding fish populations, biodiversity, and ocean health. The use of eDNA is an exciting tool that looks to provide more data at lower cost. GMGI, with its research location on Gloucester harbor and its bioscience academy in Blackburn Industrial Park is a marine technology leader in Gloucester, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and beyond.
